Additional Damage Reduction Insurance (in short !)
Personal injury and death:
All our motorcycles are insured according to the minimum requirements of the authorities (SOAT). This means that the rider, his passenger AND third parties are covered for medical (!) costs.
Nevertheless, PeruMotors strongly advise their clients to obtain a health insurance with maximum coverage in Bolivia and Peru for the length of this tour, because you don't want to depend on the SOAT-insurance.
Damage to the rental motorcycle and third party property damage:
All our motorcycles are standard NOT INSURED for damage to the rental motorcycle AND for property damage to third parties. The Additional Damage Reduction Insurance covers this kind of damage, with an excess/deductible of max. US$ 500.00, which is also the amount of the "Security Deposit" (cash or major credit card: Visa, MasterCard, Amex or Diners Club), and your maximum risk.
For this tour the insurance premium is US$ 180.00 cash (US$ 210.00 with credit card) per motorcycle.
Without this insurance the rider/renter of the motorcycle is fully liable for all costs of damage to the rental motorcycle and third party property. In this case the "Security Deposit" is US$ 2,500.00 (cash or credit card), but your maximum risk is NOT LIMITED to this amount !
Please, read the complete insurance information for this tour.
Day 1 --- Arrival in Arequipa
- Altitude: 2.300 meters / 7,500 ft
On day one you will arrive in Arequipa (Peru), the lively city in southern Peru. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. Your tour guide will do the briefing for the whole group about the upcoming tour. And he will arrange all the necessary paperwork with you.
The rest of the day is at leisure in Arequipa, a very nice colonial city with a friendly atmosphere.
Day 2 --- Arequipa - Puno
- Distance: 300 Km. / 180 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 3.800 meters / 12,500 ft
It is finally time to start the engines. We start in the early morning, with a good excellent first riding day. Crossing the mighty Andes form west to east. We end up on the shores of Lake Titicaca, in the town of Puno. When we arrive in the hotel in the heart of the city, we go to the harbor for the boat excursion to the ‘Floating islands of the Uros people’.
Day 3 --- Puno - Quincemil
- Distance: 480 Km. / 290 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 600 meters / 2,000 ft
The longest riding day on this tour. Just north of Puno we’ll have to cross 'little New Delhi'-city Juliaca. An experience on its own. Then over the Altiplano to Macusani .We follow the ‘InterOceanic Highway’ downhill on the east slopes of the Andes. From 4.840 to 380 meters in 170 km. That’s NOT a straight road ! We end up in the little tropical town of Quincemil, where we stay in a nice family hotel with luscious tropical gardens.
Day 4 --- Quincemil - Cusco
- Distance: 245 Km. / 150 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: 3.400 meters / 11,000 ft
What comes down, must go up again. We’ll have to climb the mighty Andes again. In about 100 km we climb from 600 to 4,700 meters. That’s NOT a straight road ! The views are just spectacular. After lunch we enter the ancient capital of the Inca empire: Cusco.
Day 5 --- Cusco
- Altitude: 3.400 meters / 11,000 ft
The resting day in Cusco. So, no motorcycles today. But that doesn't mean there is nothing to do. In the morning your tour guide will organize the "World famous walking city tour in Cusco, powered by PeruMotors (free of charge)". In about 2,5 hours you will see the beautiful sites of Cusco. The afternoon is for exploring Cusco on your own, or visit some Inca ruins outside of Cusco, or just for relaxing at the hotel.
Day 6 --- Cusco - Ollantaytambo
- Distance: About 100 Km. / 60 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 2.800 meters / 9,200 ft
A relative short ride to the "Sacred Valley of the Inca's". Here we can visit the Salinas. Lunch will be in Urubamba. We arrive early in the afternoon in the authentic Inca town of Ollantaytambo, where you can visit the most impressive Inca fortress. This is the ONLY place where the Inca won a battle in the war against the Spaniards.
Day 7 --- Machu Picchu
- Distance: 45 Km. / 30 Mi. (Train & bus)
- Altitude: 2.300 meters / 7,500 ft
THE absolute touristic highlight of South America: Machu Picchu. And, of course, one of the highlights of this tour. Because there is (still) no existing road to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), we go by train. Early in the morning the train will bring us, along the Urubamba river, in about 2 hours to Aguas Calientes. Then in about half an hour by bus to the entrance. In the afternoon you'll return to Ollantaytambo by train.
Day 8 --- Ollantaytambo - Chalhuanca
- Distance: 325 Km. / 195 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 2.875 meters / 9,500 ft
After all about the Incas in the past days, we are on the road again. On our way to the coast, we’ll have to cross the Andes again. This time eastwards. The riding is amazing and the views are just spectacular. Somewhere halfway to Nasca we spend the night in the tourist-less town of Chalhuanca.
Day 9 --- Chalhuanca - Nasca
- Distance: 345 Km. / 210 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 630 meters / 2,100 ft
Continuing on the 'Road with the 1.000 Hairpins". There is much more Andes to ride today. Actually, more of the same of yesterday. Not boring at all ! The last 90 km we dive from high altitude to 630 meters, That’s NOT a straight road ! We end up in a nice hotel with a pool in Nasca, on a comfortable altitude.
Day 10 --- Nasca - Chala (Puerto Inka)
- Distance: 160 Km. / 100 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to sea level
In the morning the possibility to fly over the world famous pampa with the Nasca lines, because they are only visible from the air. After lunch we ride through the desert to the coast. We stay in a hotel on the beach at a stunning location.
Day 11 --- Chala - Aplao
- Distance: 335 Km. / 200 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 800 meters / 2,625 ft
Today we follow the coast south bound on the PanAmerican Highway. After lunch we go land inwards to a quite basic hotel in the valley of Majes.
Day 12 --- Aplao - Cabanaconde
- Distance: 255 Km. / 155 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 3.300 / 10,800 ft
Maybe the most spectacular ride lies ahead of us. Again we’ll have to climb to extreme altitudes. And as an extra bonus we ride about 40 km on a spectacular gravel road. The Ride-of-a-Lifetime ! We stop in Cabanaconde, close to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. The hotel is a nice family type hotel.
Day 13 --- Cabanaconde - Arequipa
- Distance: 220 Km. / 130 Mi. (Motorcycle)
- Altitude: to 2.300 / 7,500 ft
Just about 15 km form the hotel we arrive at ‘Cruz del Condor’. Here we can see the Andean Condor in flight. No guarantees ! After seeing the largest flying birds on earth we ride to the little town Chivay for lunch. Then the last part of the tour to our hometown of Arequipa, where we will arrive in the afternoon. At night we tell our stories over a nice farewell-dinner in the city.
Day 14 --- Departure from Arequipa
After 2 weeks of adventure it is time to say goodbye.
Your transfer to the international airport of Arequipa for your flight to Lima is arranged by your tour guide.

Is Peru safe to travel on your own?
YES !!! The roads are good and the people are very friendly. Of course, you'll have to be cautious, like you would be at home, or in any other part of the world.
South America (Peru) doesn't have a good reputation, but in our 12 years in business, not even one of our guests experienced big problems.
And, by the way, we live ourselves with our families for more than 12 years in this country. So far without any major problems with criminality.
Is the airfare included in the price?
No. Our guests are coming from all over the world and as a tour operator we are not big enough to bargain good prices with the airlines. So, you'll have to arrange your flight to Arequipa (and back). We will provide you the exact dates for arrival at and departure from Arequipa.
To which airport do I have to fly for a tour?
In general, you'll have to fly to Arequipa, Peru (airportcode: AQP). This city is our homebase. Normally you will fly to Lima, the capital of Peru, and take a domestic flight from there to Arequipa.
Very often the airlines offer the domestic flight from Lima (Peru) to Arequipa (Peru) for a small addition to your international airfare. Ask for it !
How do I make a booking for your tours?
Search for the <BOOKING> tab on the page of the tour you want to book. Fill out the form click <SEND>. We will contact and inform you about the rest of procedure.
I'm not very tall. Is it possible to lower the motorcycle?
Suzuki DR650: Yes, this motorcycles has the possiblity to lower the rear suspension with 5 cm.
BMW F700GS: No, we can only offer an original BMW lowered seat, which lowers the seat height with 3 cm.
BMW F800GS: No, we can only offer an original BMW lowered seat, which lowers the seat height with 3 cm.
BMW R1200GS: No, but we can put the seat in the lowest position.
Is there a spare motorcycle available on the tour?
No.
What happens if I wreck my motorcycle?
Well... with our experience, if the motocycle is wrecked beyond repair, most of the time the rider is not in a good shape to ride a motorcycle anymore. If you are still fit enough to ride, we will try to get the motorcycle back on the road. If this is not possible, we will try to replace the motorcycle. For the time being you'll have to join our mechanic in the support vehicle. Sometimes, on certain routes, the motorcycle guide can give you his motorcycle.
Is any food and/or (soft-) drinks included?
- Self guided tours: the standard breakfast in the hotels is included.
- Guided tours: the standard breakfast in the hotels and the lunches on riding days are included.
Is it likely to suffer from altitude-sickness?
Most of our tours have differences in altitudes between sea-level and about 5.000 meters (16,400 ft.). On average about 50-60% of our guests will suffer some symptoms, like headache, nauseousness, insomnia, etc. Let's say: "flu-like symptoms". It is impossible to predict who will suffer the symptoms and who won't. Fitness and age of the person doesn't seem to matter.
There is a lot you can do to avoid the symptoms: On altitude drink lot's (at least 3 liters / 0,75 a gallon) of non-alcoholic fluids, like water, coca-tea, coffee and soft drinks. And eat chocolate, candy and other sweets.
In severe cases oxigen is needed, but that is quite rare. All hotels on altitude have it available.
Or you can use medication, like Diamox. Our advise is that you don't take any medication, before you have the symptoms. In case of severe symptoms it is even better is to buy 'local stuff' in the Farmacias in Peru.
Everybody will at least notice that they are on altitude, for example while climbing stairs.
Normally your body will be adjusted to the altitude in about 4-5 days. And the symptoms will disappear by itself.
Are the airpoirt transfers in Arequipa included?
Yes ! We will pick you up from the airport, or we will send a taxi to pick you up. And, of course, after the tour we will take you to the airport for your flight home.
What is the best time of the year to pay Peru a visit?
Weatherwise, roughly between March and December, becasue that is the dry season. In the highlands a rain shower can be expected year round.
Do I need a visa for traveling to Peru?
Citizens from most countries in Europe and North and South America can enter Peru with a "Tarjeta Andina de Migración" (TAM). This is a tourist visa which you can get upon entering Peru. Please, check for yourself if you need a visa, or if you can enter with TAM.
And how about a visa for Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile and Ecuador?
It is your repsonsibility to get the necessary (tourist) visa(s) for the countries you travel. PeruMotors can not help or assist you with that.
Please, fill out the fields at the bottom of this page.
Upon booking for a tour or rental a down payment of US$ 1,000.00 per participant is required to secure your place on the tour or your rental motorcycle.
